An appeal for information has been launched after two men armed with a machete targeted two convenience stores in Wrexham last night.

Police say that at 8.53pm two men entered the Premier Stores in Victoria Road, Brynteg armed with a machete. They caused damage in the store and to the till before taking cigarettes and alcohol.

Shortly afterwards another robbery was reported at a store in Glan Llyn Road in Bradley where two males in their twenties or early thirties, entered with a machete, emptied the till and stole alcohol.

Two men wearing balaclavas were also seen attempting to break into the post office in Southsea Road, Southsea at around 8.45pm. They failed to gain entry and fled.

Police believe the two robberies and attempted burglary are linked.

Armed officers were deployed and a silver Audi car believed to have been involved in the incidents was later recovered in Rhosnesni, but the suspects remain outstanding. The police helicopter was also seen over the area.

DI Mark Hughes said: “Fortunately no one was injured in these incidents which we believe are linked and which involved at least two offenders prepared to target a succession of premises armed with offensive weapon.

“I am appealing for anyone with information which may assist us in tracing these individuals to call us on 101 or anonymously if you prefer on Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 or through our link live chat link Y000939 or Y000940.”
