A former laundrette in Brynteg could soon be converted into apartments.

In an application submitted to Wrexham Council it has been proposed that the vacant property in the Victoria Road area is used to “reduce the deficit of much needed housing without the need to construct a new building.”

As part of the plans the ground floor of the building would be turned into two apartments – while the existing accomodation on the first floor would be altered to an additional apartment.

This would bring the number of apartments in the building up to four.

Details provided by the applicant’s in the design and access statement, explain: “We are utilising an existing resource and creating new housing within an existing structure.

“The current use of the building is no longer viable as the launderette has remained vacant for some time.

“By agreeing this development in principle, the local authority reduce the deficit of the much needed housing within the county without the need to construct a new building.

“The works that is to be done will keep the building’s external appearance intact, whilst providing a new use within the building.

“The modern efficient constructions upgrade of these apartments will ensure that the new occupants will have comfortable homes which will not have a negative impact on the environment or local ecology.

“We feel this planning application should be looked favourably upon and granted permission as we feel there are no justifiable reasons for refusal.”

The application will be considered for approval at a later date.
