Plans for Wrexham’s St David’s Day Parade and celebrations have been released.

In just over a week Wrexham will stage a parade and entertainment to celebrate the Patron Saint of Wales’ special day – organised again this year by Menter Iaith Maelor in partnership with Wrexham County Borough Council.

The event has become a firm fixture in the calendar in recent years with hundreds turning out on the streets to cheer the parade on.

This year’s St David’s Day celebrations will take place in Wrexham town centre on Sunday March 1st.

Everyone is welcome to take part in the parade which will assemble outside the Guildhall from 10.30am before starting at 11.00am sharp by making its way through Lord Street, Regent Street, Hope Street, High Street, Charles Street, Smithfield Road, Yorke Street, Chester Street, Lambpit Street and Queen’s Square where it will end with the traditional singing of the National Anthem. You can of course also join in at any point along the route.

The Chief Officer of Menter Iaith Maelor, Gill Stephen, said: “We will be co-ordinating the event again this year and work has been going on for some time over its organisation.

“We would encourage anybody who would like to join our parade, such as local schools or youth clubs, to get in touch with us. There is a very warm welcome to local bands to join the parade. We hope to build on the success of last year’s best dressed window competition by getting even more local businesses involved and we can also be contacted for a free pack to help them get started.”

A Welsh Crafts and Produce Fair will be held at Saith Seren, for further details contact Ann Phillips on 07874 119311 or [email protected]

Anyone interested in getting involved in the parade or the window competition should contact Menter Iaith Maelor’s Sioned Roberts on 01978 363791 or email [email protected].
