Wrexham town centre will come alive with song, daffodils, Welsh flags and St David’s Day celebrations next week.

In association with Menter Iaith Fflint a Wrecsam, Wrexham Council has will host its annual and popular St David’s Day parade for Friday 1st March.

As with previous years the parade will assemble outside the Guildhall from 12:45pm before starting at 1pm sharp, led by the Cambria Band.

This year there has been a change to the traditional route that usually sees things end on Queens Square, this year the parade will make its way to the council’s Tŷ Pawb building where there will be fun and activities taking place throughout the day.

From 10am the arts and markets space will play host to Welsh Produce stalls, children’s craft, live entertainment and a memory lane cinema showing Superted and Wil Cwac Cwac.

Gill Stephen, chief officer of Menter Iaith Fflint a Wrecsam, said: “There is a warm welcome for people of all ages to join in the fun again this year, whether they are Welsh speakers or not.

“This extremely popular event is an opportunity for everyone in Wrexham to celebrate the Welsh identity of the town.”

Cllr Andy Williams, Mayor of Wrexham added: “The annual St David’s Day Parade has always proven a very popular event in the heart of Wrexham and we don’t expect this year’s celebrations to be an exception.

“I’d like to thank Menter Iaith Fflint a Wrecsam and officers at Wrexham Council for the work they put into this event, and extend a warm welcome to anyone who wishes to take part.”

Last year saw hundreds of people brave the ‘Beast from the East’ to take part in the parade, however the mid week forecast has predicted it will be a much warmer day this year.

As the forecast for next week’s parade is currently looking a lot milder and drier, be sure to pop down and take part in the celebrations!
