Pet Owners in Wrexham Show Their Support For New Dog Control PSPO
Dog owners in Alyn Waters Country Park have welcomed the introduction of the new Public Space Protection Order which came into force in March.
Under the Order, which came into force at the start of the month, dogs must be kept on their leads in car parks and around visitor centres around all country parks n Wrexham. They can be let off their lead when not in these areas.
Dogs must also now be kept on leads whilst on public roads or pavements.
The PSPO was introduced at the beginning of March following a public consultation period which showed strong support for control of dogs in designated areas in the county borough’s country parks and around visitor centres and car parks.
The new measures were backed unanimously by members of the Executive Board in December 2016 and replace the previous Dog Control Orders.
Under the PSPO dog owners are required to:
– Exclude dogs from bowling green playing surfaces, the playing areas of marked sports pitched and fenced children’s play areas, skate parks, tennis courts and multi use games areas. (Owners with assisted dogs are excluded)
– Place their dogs on a lead when directed by an Authorised Officer.
– Place their dogs on a lead around visitor centres and car parks in the parks and bowling greens.
- Place their dogs on a lead on a public road and pavement.
Cllr David A Bithell, said: “It’s great to visit the parks and to see responsible dog owners enjoying the area with their dogs.
“The majority seem to agree that the new PSPO is “common sense” and have no problem complying with it. Responsible dog owners have nothing to fear from the new measures.
“Those who allow their dogs to foul without picking it up will, however, continue to be fined when caught and I encourage people to keep reporting offenders to us, in confidence by emailing [email protected]”
