Sadly a person has died after being hit by a train on the line between Gobowen and Chirk

Update: British Transport Police have confirmed a  person has died after being hit by a train this morning, in a statement a spokesperson said:

“Officers were called to Western Rhyn Level Crossing, Shropshire, at approximately 7.50am today (11/07) after reports that a person had been struck by a train.

Colleagues from the ambulance service also attended, however, a person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers are working to identify the person and inform their family. The incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

All lines have reopened between Gobowen and Chirk but some services will be delayed by up to 30 minutes or revised.

A normal service is expected to resume from 11:30am says Network Rail.

Earlier report: Due to a person having been hit by a train between Gobowen and Chirk the railway line towards Wrexham General is blocked.

Police are at the scene of the incident.

This is resulting in disruption to trains running between Shrewsbury and Wrexham General. Arriva Trains have said they expect disruption to continue until around 10am.

There is no further detail on the condition of the person involved in the incident.
