Peregrine Falcon Chick Hatching On Wrexham Police Station Roof
Eggs laid by the peregrine falcons which live on the roof of Wrexham Police Station have begun to hatch this week.
A pair of the birds have lived on the roof of the building for a number of years and we are told that one of the falcons laid eggs in early April.
On Friday at 10am one of the eggs hatched with a couple of others still left in the nest.
You can view their progress live on North Wales Police’s webcam, which was set up to monitor the birds.
Last year the birds laid 5 eggs which were closely watched by RSPB members and saw three hatch and fledge in total.
With recent discussion of the tower of the police station being removed, due to the £6 million cost of maintaining the building for another ten years, RSPB members have insisted that the rare birds are re-homed before any demolition commences.
In recent years many peregrine falcons have made the move to urban high rise buildings, with Wrexham Police Station being suitably high up for them to nest.
