Officers Receive Bravery Award After Rescuing Woman In Attack
Two officers from Wrexham have been honoured for their bravery after saving a woman who was being assaulted by her partner.
Two officers to receive a Chief Constable’s Commendation for Dedication and Bravery were PC Daniel Rees and PC Stephen Jones who were based in the Wrexham area at the time of an incident whereby PC Rees was assaulted.
On the morning of Wednesday, January 30th 2013 the North Wales Police Control Room received a 999 call from a woman who was being attacked by her partner at an address in Coedpoeth.
PC Rees was the first to arrive and witnessed a man assaulting and threatening the woman. PC Rees used his captor spray and baton when he himself was subject to threats and was assaulted and punched to his head.
PC Jones then arrived and the man was arrested and taken into police custody. The man continued to make threats to the police officers and stated he would have killed PC Rees had PC Jones not arrived at the scene.
On July 10th 2013 the defendant appeared before Caernarfon Crown Court and pleaded guilty to threats, assault and possession of an offensive weapon. He received six years and four months imprisonment.
At the time the Judge stated that the officer’s actions prevented the man from killing the woman.
Both PC Rees and PC Jones were commended for their actions.
PC Rees remains working in the Wrexham area and PC Jones is now based with the Roads Policing Unit working from the Deeside area.
