Volunteers at New 2 You Wrexham Reuse Centre said they were “devastated” this morning to find that their premises on Whitegate Industrial Estate, had been burgled and a significant amount of cash stolen

The thieves appear to have broken through two locked doors to snatch their haul and make off in less than three minutes with the cash

Rita Walker, who is the longest-serving volunteer at New 2 You said “The stolen money is a major loss to a small organisation like us. With the cost of our overheads to keep New 2 You running, we have to be cautious with our spending to the point of meanness.”

“To lose such an amount is a severe blow and has left all our volunteers feeling disheartened and angry.”  Rita explained how they all found it hard to believe that anyone would target a community-based organisation that helps individuals with low cost furniture and household goods and, on a weekly basis, offers help and items free of charge to people being rehomed after homelessness, domestic violence or leaving care.”

A proportion of the money stolen was raised from the sale of second-hand, refurbished electrical items provided by another North Wales charity who still need to be paid.

“We’ll pull through this, but it’s been a major blow particularly in a year when we’ve had the expense of moving to better premises. Volunteers work so hard to sort, clean and repair donated items that it really has hit them hard.”

Images have been captured on CCTV and anyone with knowledge of this burglary is asked by the New 2 You team to contact North Wales Police
