North Wales Miners Association Trust Gain Access to Bersham Colliery Engine House
North Wales Miners Association Trust (NWMAT) has signed an agreement with Wrexham Council to have access to the area around the Engine House at Bersham Colliery, Rhostyllen.
They tell us “This will enable the Trust to open the site on a limited scale to show some of the machinery and explain the history of the colliery and coal mining in the area”.
There will be an ‘Open Doors’ event on Sunday 16th of September from 10am until 4pm with free admission and parking.
On the Sunday you will be able to see some of the machinery and the Engine House with some of the ex-miners. There will also be an opportunity to go to the top of the tip and take some pictures, it may be the last chance before the tip disappears!
Their site – http://northwalesminers.com – is worth a read and click around with some interesting documents on the Gresford Disaster, plus this page detailing north wales coalfield sites.
We have added this site to our list of ‘local and interesting sites’ that can be viewed here – if you know of any others to add please get in touch!
