Two wards at the Wrexham Maelor Hospital have partially closed after cases of Norovirus were found.

The winter vomiting bug, Norovirus has resulted in the partial closure of two wards in the hospital. One is due to reopen fully tomorrow.

As a result of the norovirus cases, visitors are being urged to stay away from the hospital if they have experienced any symptons.

Norovirus, which is also known as the ‘winter vomiting bug’, is a highly common stomach bug that causes vomiting and diarrhoea for those who have contracted it.

There is no cure for the bug and symptoms usually last a couple of days. It is believed a person carrying the illness may be infectious to others during the first 12-48 hours.

A spokesperson for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board said: “As always, can we remind visitors not to come to the hospital if they have suffered from diarrhoea or vomiting in the previous 48 hours, patients who are due to come in and have those symptoms to contact us first for advice and so we can make appropriate arrangements, and all visitors to the hospital to follow the advice notices that we are displaying and any guidance from nursing or other staff, both for their own protection and to help prevent any further spread of infection.”
