Cllr Hugh Jones, Lead Member for Communities and Partnerships, said: “I’m very pleased to see the Sports Awards return.

“The achievements of young athletes, community sporting groups and hardworking coaches and trainers should always be due proper recognition, and events such as these can show our gratitude as a council and as a community to these people.

“The recent silver medal success of Vicky Thornley in Rio – as well as the past successes of fellow Olympic rowers Tom James MBE and Chris Bartley – shows that Wrexham can nurture Olympic-level talents, and I hope many of those recognised at the 2016 Sports Awards go on to be the Olympians of the future.

“I hope we receive as many nominations as possible.”

More information on the event and how you can make a nomination can be found on the Wrexham Council website.

Closing date for nominations is 12 noon on Friday 23rd September.
