No Changes Planned In Council’s Winter Maintenance Policy

With temperatures dipping and winter approaching it is fitting that a report to the Executive Board next week proposes no changes to the Council’s Winter Maintenance Policy.

A Wrexham Council press release states: “The new political administration is keen to stress that the proposed Highways Winter Service Policy is stronger than ever with salt stock levels now currently held at 8,000 tonnes. ”

Lead Member of Environment, Cllr David A Bithell said: “Keeping our key roads clear during the critical winter months remains a priority for us. We need to keep Wrexham on the move and as a result of the Winter Maintenance Policy review we are confident that we have the processes and contingency in place.

“Our holding stocks for salt levels are a lot higher than they used to be.”

“We have three depots across the County Borough and there have been no significant changes to the actual gritting routes.

“Our operational plans are geared up for the forecasting season from now until March 2015.

“Our annual Winter Maintenance Budget is approx £600k and there are no proposals to reduce this budget.

Cllr Bithell said that the proposed changes to the Highways Safety Inspection Policy, which is also going before the Board in the joint report was being updated to reflect modern standards and this would be reviewed every two years.
