New Wrexham Development To Support Over 1000 Jobs
Proposals to create a new office development that will support over 1000 jobs in Wrexham was given the go ahead last night.
Moneypenny, a PA /call answering service was established in 2000 and currently employs 400 people. The proposed new development will allow the company continue its expansion and provide up to 1060 jobs for the area.
The company already occupies several offices on the Croesnewydd Road site, however the proposed development will result in a high quality dedicated office development which will have the potential to attract other projects within the vacant space on the western gateway site
Within application’s Planning Document Moneypenny is described as: “The largest business of its type in the UK and currently the market leader, and is one of the key Finance and Professional Services businesses in North Wales.”
The application and ‘investment’ in Wrexham was largely supported by members of the Committee, with Councillor David I. Bithell saying the development will be a ‘great thing for Wrexham’.
Concerns were raised over the potential traffic issues that may occur as a result of the development, with Councillor Paul Rogers describing the road near the site as ‘horrendous’ at peak times.
However a spokesperson for Highways said: “With a development this size traffic generation is going to increase, no question about it. A transport assessment has been undertaken and there will be a small increase in queuing times at peak hours. We are satisfied these are within acceptable tolerances.”
The scale of the proposed building is noted as being in keeping with the character and appearance of the existing built development. The building takes the basic form of two almost parallel office floor plates arranged either side of a central atrium, three storeys high measuring approximately 15 meters in height with louvered plant enclosures located on top, set back from the flat roof parapet.
Within the Planning Document, Head of Assets and Economic Development states: “Until recent times, the County Borough has not attracted business from the finance and professional services. The retention and expansion of the sector is considered to be a strategically important investment within our local and wider regional economy in the provision of the employment which will be created as a result.”
