New railings, seating and litter bins to be installed as part of town improvement works
New seating, litter bins and planters are set to be installed on a main town centre street as an improvement scheme enters its final stages.
Since August Wrexham Council have been carrying out the first phase of a £420,000 regeneration programme on Hope Street and Queens Street.
Seen as ‘phase one’ of a wider improvement scheme, works have so far focused on the digging up and replacing of paving on the two streets.
However earlier this month Wrexham.com reported that phase one of the improvement project had been extended by an additional three weeks due to “unexpected issues in the ground conditions”.
So far works on the ‘footpaths’ of the streets have been repaved, with work currently underway replacing the ‘central carriageways’.
Diversions for pedestrians remain in place across much of the area – with a few anecdotally pointing out they’ve been caught in a ‘dead end’ of barriers a few times.
Once complete Wrexham Council say that new street furniture will be installed in the area, including railings, seating, planters and litter bins.
It is hoped that the investment and new paving will attract new businesses and visitors to the town centre.
Cllr David A Bithell, lead member for environment and transport, said: “We’re very grateful to the public, shopkeepers and businesses for their patience during this first stage of work in Wrexham Town Centre.
“The updated streetscape is already looking brighter, and the further addition of street furniture will help to brighten the overall appearance of that part of town.”
