Residents across Wrexham who have a two or more green bins are being reminded that they will soon have to pay to have them collected fortnightly.

From April 1st Wrexham Council will introduce an annual £30 per bin charge for those who own more than one green waste bin.

The charge comes as a result of the recent Difficult Decisions consultation, which estimated that an £15,000 a year could be generated for the for the council.

Wrexham Council say the first green bin will be emptied fortnightly as part of your annual council tax payment – however a payment must be made for an additional bins to be collected.

Any additional bins you currently have can be kept for storage, however only additional bins that you have registered with Wrexham County Borough Council will be emptied from April 1 2018.

You will be sent a sticker to put on these bins once you register.

Cllr David A Bithell, lead member for the environment and transport, said: “I would like to thank everyone who took the time to take part in our consultation for their comments which has helped us make the difficult decisions.

“Everyone will still get their first green bin emptied as part of their council tax.”

If you would like us to continue to collect additional green garden waste bins from your property, for an annual charge of £30 per bin, information about the service and how to subscribe can be found on the Wrexham Council website or by contacting Pride in Your Street on 01978 298989.
