New Cafe Opens At Pontcysyllte Aqueduct
Afternoon tea and speciality coffee and cakes are now on the menu at Britain’s longest, highest aqueduct, the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal – a World Heritage Site.
A new outdoor catering service, The Bread Basket Café is provided by MPM Catering, part of the Shrewsbury-based Cook Street group, in partnership with Glandŵr Cymru, the Canal & River Trust in Wales, the charity which manages the heritage site and the nation’s 2,000 mile canal network.
As specialists in public catering for live events, the company say they will ‘be sweetening the visitor experience for everyone who visits Trevor Basin to see the aqueduct’.
Sue Hayes, MPM Catering marketing manager, explained: “We are delighted and excited to have the opportunity to provide a year-round catering facility in such a special location. The Bread Basket is only 2 minutes’ walk from the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and our customers have a perfect view of life on the canal whilst enjoying a range of hot and cold drinks, freshly made rolls and cakes.Menu items will evolve according to the time of year and the offering will be in keeping with an outdoor catering environment.
“Two local jobs have been created and local produce is being sourced. In our first week we have been warmly welcomed by local people and look forward to complementing the visitor experience in the area.”
Lynda Slater, Canal & River Trust visitor centre manager at Trevor Basin, added: “We are delighted to be working with MPM Catering and providing an extra service for visitors to the World Heritage Site.”
