A new bereavement support group for children and young people in Wrexham has launched.

STARS, which stands for support, trust, all together, remembering and safe, has been set up by Frances Williams and her daughter Fern after they discovered a lack of support for those under the age of 14 in the area.

The new group aims to provide children aged between four and 14 who are bereaved of loved ones with fun and friends. It also hopes to create new memories for people whilst cherishing the ones already held dear.

STARS will meet every six week and in the sessions the youngsters will have the chance to have fun, play games, make friends, share experiences and have more fun.

Through peer support they can be reassured that smiling and laughter is good.

As STARS is newly formed and is run solely by volunteers, the group does not receive funding and is relying on the kindness of donations.

On Saturday between 10am and 1pm the volunteers will be hosting a bake sale at the Wrexham Maelor Hospital near the revolving doors to help raise funds. Donations made on the day will go towards supporting the sessions and providing future activities and the opportunities for day trips.

Next month on August 13th, STARS representatives will also be at the Racecourse fundraising.

The first group session starts on Saturday 20th July. If you know a child who would like to attend you can email [email protected] for more information.

More information about STARS can be found on its Facebook and Twitter pages.
