Mystery Over Towns Mobile Data Connections Continue

Wrexham.com for people living in or visiting the Wrexham area

Over the past few weeks a number of people have contacted us regarding 3G and signal issues in the area.

Last night we asked Wrexham.com readers if they had experienced any signal of 3G issues in the past few weeks and judging by the volume of responses we had, it is clear a lot of people have had the same issues.

It would seem that most networks have been affected, with users of Virgin, 02, Three and EE all getting in touch to say that 3G in the town has either been weak or virtually non existent. While some people have had issues getting signal at home, it seems the main problems seem to be in the town centre itself.

However some people seemed quite pleased to know it was not just their phone experiencing problems, with one person saying ‘I thought it was just my old clonker of an iPhone 4 playing up’.

One network people have struggled with is 02, so last night we checked out the data coverage for 02 in Wrexham. The website said: “A mast close to your location is experiencing a high level of demand for service. This can cause intermittent service for calls, texts and data. We’re working to improve it as quickly as we can. Sorry for any inconvenience.”

Speaking of the signal issues, Sarah contacted us to say : “3G what’s that! I rarely get 3G on O2 so I hold out no hope at all on getting 4G! #wasteofmymoneyeachmonth”

Jonathon Steele tweeted Wrexham.com to say that signal ‘on 02, just as bad! Starting to think this whole 3G thing is a myth’.

However Jane Edwards pointed out that her husband somehow managed to get 4G in Llay last night. However Jane added that 3G coverage has been ‘non existent / hit and miss in Plas Coch area’.

Another person told Wrexham.com that the signal issues has affected local businesses, as people have not been receiving emails or invite notifications.

Arguably the network people have contacted Wrexham.com about the most is EE, with people struggling to get signal anywhere in the area. However some pointed out that just a few miles up the road, coverage is fine in Chester.

Patrick said: “Been having trouble for a couple of weeks staff at EE it’s because the mast is down. The mast in question is behind Primark.” While Sian added: “I have full reception but 3G is intermittent, I’m on EE.”

Jemma Williams also tweeted: “Mine says 3G but incredibly slow, on EE. Works great in Chester on 4G. Shame Wrexham will never catch up.”

One person contacted us to say that they had recently spoken to staff at the EE store on Eagles Meadow, who said they are transferring masts over to 4G. Adding that the problem has been ongoing for the past three weeks, however the issues could last for another four weeks.

We contacted EE a few days ago with a number of town centre postcodes that had experienced recently experienced issues.

A spokesperson told Wrexham.com: “We are aware some customers have reported signal issues in the Wrexham area – engineers have attended sites in the area, and performance has now improved. We will continue to monitor the service in this area. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.”
