The source of loud bangs which sounded like gun shots which were heard across Gwersyllt late last night turned out to be fireworks set off by youths.

Local residents reported being startled by the noises at around 10.45pm with an ambulance later seen nearby.

The bangs were also heard by people living in nearby Bradley and Summerhill too.

One resident said he was walking from Tanyfron to Gwersyllt when he heard what sounded like gun shots leading him to run. He then saw blue flashing lights shortly after.

However, a call to police revealed that the noises were just fireworks set off by local youths.

The presence of police and an ambulance later on was not connected to the noises.

A spokesperson for North Wales Police said: “At 22.45 we received a call in regards to a complaint that youths had let off some fireworks in a field.”
