Wrexham’s Pontcysyllte Aqueduct will be lit-up as part of a spectacular evening of music and entertainment on Friday 12th July.

Sitting within an 11-mile World Heritage Site, the aqueduct is the main focal point which attracts thousands of boaters, cyclists and walkers each year.

The event on the Acrefair Football Club pitch, situated under the aqueduct in between Trevor and Froncysyllte will start at 7pm and culminate at 11pm following a spectacular lighting of the arches and firework display to celebrate the 4th anniversary of the site being awarded UNESCO World Heritage Site status.

Throughout the evening, local bands will be playing, small fairground rides will be operating and local food producers will be keeping the crowds fed. Those who plan to attend are encouraged to bring a deckchair, a picnic and enjoy a truly Welsh summer celebration evening under the magnificent 126ft pillars of the aqueduct.

Joe Bickerton from the Wrexham Destination Management Partnership said: “We are so fortunate to have a World Heritage Site on our doorsteps and what better way to celebrate this than use the backdrop of the magnificent pillars of the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct for an event which will not only attract new visitors, but also help benefit local businesses and raise awareness of what we have to offer in the area.

“When we first illuminated the aqueduct in 2012, it was a real spectacle and we quickly decided that we should try and make this celebration event an annual occurrence. I’m sure this will be a brilliant night and something that we can continue to develop over future years.”

Free parking will be available at the Trevor Basin and a shuttle bus will operate between the car parks. Those wishing to attend are encouraged to purchase discounted tickets in advance, priced at just £4 adults, £2 concessions and £10 for a family ticket. Discounted tickets are available from the Tourist Information Centres at Queens Square, Wrexham and Mile End, Oswestry. Online tickets are available by logging onto www.pontcysyllte-aqueduct.co.uk .

There will also be facilities to pay on the gate. For those staying in the area over the weekend, a Victorian Fair will also take place in Cefn Mawr on Saturday 13  July between 2-6pm as well as the Eisteddfod celebrations in Llangollen making it a truly fantastic weekend for all ages.
