MP Gets Virgin Media Update – Public Information Event Next Week
Wrexham’s MP Ian Lucas has again met with Virgin Media in Wrexham for a progress update on the company’s work in the area.
Mr Lucas secured a Commons commitment from Virgin’s Chief Executive to invest in the town during a Select Committee session in 2015. Since then Mr Lucas has worked with the company and Wrexham Council officers to help make Virgin Media’s plans for a new fibre broadband link for Wrexham, serving more than 20,000 properties, a reality.
Speaking after the meeting, he said: “It was good to catch up and to hear that work is progressing well to link Wrexham up. Preparatory work has now been completed in parts of the town – and new work is underway all the time. This is a long-term, major infrastructure investment, but it will make a real difference once completed.
“It is already helping to drive market competition in Wrexham – and there are increasing opportunities for Wrexham people to get faster broadband.
“I would urge people who want better broadband to look closely at what services are already available, and to register their interest in any services which are likely to be coming online soon. It’s important that people are aware of what connections are available – and that they make use of them.
“I’d also ask Wrexham councillors to make sure they are helping to ensure work to boost Wrexham’s communications infrastructure is carried out in their wards in as convenient a manner for their constituents as possible.”
This week Virgin Media were keen on advertising on Wrexham.com again that there will be a drop in information event at St Johns Church Hall, Borras Rd, LL13 9ER between 6pm – 8pm in just over a weeks time on Thursday 17th for those who want information on their forthcoming works in and around the town centre.
