Local MP Susan Elan Jones has backed a call for further action to tackle plastic waste.

The Clwyd South MP previously joined a cross-party group of MPs in urging Tesco and other supermarket chiefs to cut plastic waste.

Yesterday she backed a World Wildlife Fund initiative that calls on Theresa May and the UK Government to make restoring nature a key priority for next month’s Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting.

Susan Elan Jones MP said: “I was pleased to sign this letter to the Prime Minister and back this important campaign that has been popularised by the excellent ‘Blue Planet’ TV series.

“Since 1970, global wildlife populations have declined by 58%. That is a frightening figure and it’s why we need heads of Government to do more together to tackle climate change and support biodiversity.”

“The Paris Accord showed how countries can come together to address the threat posed by climate change – and I would urge the Prime Minister to demonstrate leadership on this issue at the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting”.

The Clwyd South MP also made a personal commitment to reduce plastic use and recycle more – as pictured above!
