Migration From ‘Abroad’ Highest Source Of New Wrexhamites
Why are people from Cheshire & Chester coming to Wrexham? Why do more men leave Wrexham to go to Liverpool than women?
These are just some of the questions raised by a new online webapp developed by the Office for National Statistics, which gives data based insights to the number of people living and leaving Wrexham and other trends.
Using data from the 2011 census the migration patterns of people in the 12 months before the census is graphed, and broken down by age, gender and where they came from and went to.
The data shows 4,356 people moved into Wrexham from other areas with 3,607 moving away from Wrexham. This means overall there were +749 extra people in Wrexham.
607 people came from Flintshire, with 464 Wrexhamites leaving. 502 Cestrians decided to move to Wrexham with 380 heading the other way.
In addition to this 8,659 people moved within Wrexham itself eg. moving house.
Another visualisation tool illustrates where people reside and where they work, with the graphic for Wrexham looking like this:
The webapp is available for free and contains data for most locations around the UK.
