‘Mentioned In Dispatches’ At Wrexham County Borough Museum
Wrexham County Borough Museum is holding an online exhibition which tells the stories of how people from Wrexham served in the country’s armed forces in times of war.
The “Mentioned in Dispatches” exhibition includes material from the first world war which is particularly poignant as this year is the 100 anniversary of the outbreak of that war.
‘Mentioned in Dispatches’ uses press reports and first hand accounts recorded at the time to tell the stories of how people from Wrexham served in this country’s armed forces in times of war.
The exhibition focuses on the Crimean War (1853–56), the Boer War (1899–1902), the First World War (1914–1918) and the Second World War (1939–1945).
At the end of the exhibition there is a place kept free for anyone who would like to commemorate their relatives and ancestors’ service during wartime and to acknowledge local soldiers, sailors and airmen on active service now.
The information is also freely available online at to view here. You can also leave your comments under the “We will remember” section.
