Power cuts hit Wrexham early this morning causing alarms to trigger , and one person to be stuck in a lift in Eagles Meadow for around forty minutes.

Residents close to the town centre were woken in the early hours with sounds of shop alarms going off.

One business owner told us: “I went in to town around 5am and it was hard to tell if it was my premises had the alarm sounding as there were so many going off”.

Another resident in the Eagles Meadow flats has told us he was trapped for around forty minutes after the power tripped the lift system while he was inside, he said: “It was not that scary as the engineers were aware of it, but it was a relief when I finally got out”.

The man was freed from the lift at 6:05am .

People have told Wrexham.com they experienced power ‘surges’ and ‘dips’ that have affected their supply from around 5am through to 9am.

The affect on business is ongoing past midday as engineers are still attending businesses where internal servers were reset, or backup power did not last long enough for the outage.

Residential areas were also affected with many waking to find they had no power this morning as the early morning issues had tripped fuse boxes.

We also had reports that street lighting and traffic lights were also affected.

A spokesperson from SP Energy Networks told Wrexham.com: “The power cut happened at around 4am and was caused by a cable fault in the area. It is estimated that several hundred homes were impacted.

“We apologise for any inconvenience that was caused.”
