Police have confirmed a man has died following a “medical emergency” in Wrexham over the weekend.

At at around 6:30pm on Saturday 4 September emergency services were called to an incident at an “area of undergrowth near to a stretch of the Gwenfro river” in the Whitegate area.

Officers attempted to treat a male found in the water who was suffering a medical emergency.

Wrexham Town Inspector Luke Hughes said: “They were soon assisted by the Welsh Ambulance Service, however despite their concerted efforts they were unsuccessful and the male subsequently passed away.

“A number of people where in the area and would have seen the police / ambulance activity leading to suspicion as to what had occurred.

“I am aware of rumours circulating on social media that this incident involved a knife and/or was being investigated as a murder.

“This is not the case. Again please don’t listen to social media gossip, it is rarely factually correct.”
