Susan Elan Jones MP has used a debate in Parliament to raise awareness of a new RAF Benevolent Fund campaign.

The #JoinTheSearch #ChangeALife campaign aims to find RAF veterans and their families who are unaware that life-changing support is available to them through the RAF Benevolent Fund. The charity hopes to double the number of people it supports and ensure its sustainability for years to come.

According to the RAF Benevolent Fund, there are currently 1.5 million people in what they describe as the RAF family, three-quarters of whom are over 65. The benevolent fund estimates that up to 300,000 members of the RAF family could need support, with about 100,000 of those in urgent need.

Following the debate, Susan Elan Jones MP said: “I felt very pleased and privileged to speak about the RAF Benevolent Fund in the House of Commons today. This charity is doing fantastic work in finding RAF veterans and their families who have fallen off the radar and helping them before it’s too late.

“If only a few people are able to get in touch with the RAF Benevolent Fund and help someone in need as a result of today, my small contribution to this important debate will have been worth it. I have long been of the view that we do not do anywhere near enough to support our military veterans in this country.

“We depend on our armed services to keep us safe, yet as a country we do not do anywhere near enough to honour their contribution.”
