Local Government Settlement Sees 2.9% Cut For Wrexham

Today Wrexham Council has been told the provisional value of their forthcoming Local Government Settlement.

The annual local government finance settlement grant allocates money on an individual council basis, with the total grant divided among councils on the basis of a complex formula that seeks to ‘take into account the relative needs and available resources of different councils’.

Not all detail of local impacts is available as of yet, but this afternoons initial announcement has seen a -2.9% reduction in total funding for Wrexham Council compared to last year.

The detail for each local authority is below, giving context to the amount cut from Wrexham’s budget:

Wrexham Council have issued the following statement:

“Provisional Announcement of Local Government Revenue and Capital Settlement 2015-2016 for Wrexham County Borough Council

“The overall change in the Local Government Settlement for 2015/16 is -3.4% with Wrexham receiving a decrease of -2.9%.

“Councillor Mark Pritchard, Lead Member for Governance, Corporate Support, Finance and Planning said, ‘The Welsh Government have prioritised resources on Health at the expense of Local Government services. This has resulted in yet another poor settlement and put even more pressure on local services.

‘The Council are actively reshaping our services whilst continuing to prioritise the most vulnerable.

‘Wrexham’s consultation on its proposed £11m of budget cuts for next year is still open until 24 October so please take a few moments to let us know your suggestions. https://www.wrexham.gov.uk/english/consultation/budget/index.htm.

‘In the light of the continuing cutbacks I can assure you that our aim is to deliver the best for Wrexham citizens and businesses”.

‘I will be responding to this Welsh Government provisional settlement during the formal consultation period which ends on 19 November 2014.’
