Local explorer scouts embark on journey of a lifetime
A group of scouts from Wrexham recently had embarked on the trip of a lifetime thanks to the support of two North East Wales based businesses.
31 members of the K2 Explorer Scout Explorer Unit, on Dean Road, joined a fellow scout from Bermuda for an action-packed 15 days, with activities including water skiing, high rope challenges, famous thermal baths and a canoe expedition on the Danube River.
The group, aged between 14 and 18, also had the chance to learn about the Hungarian history and culture, with trips to famous landmarks such as the House of Terror in Budapest – a museum to the fascist and communist regimes that once controlled the people of Hungary.
They also visited and The Hospital in the Rock, a Nuclear Bunker Museum burned deep underneath Buda castle, as well as the former Queen Elizabeth of Hungary Godollo Palace.
Whilst there the unit were lucky enough to be able to take part in the constitution celebrations in Budapest on August 20th, which celebrates Hungary’s first king, St. Stephen, and the foundation of the Magyar state.
The trip was made possible from the support of Specsavers Broughton Park and chemical manufacturer Almetron, based on the Wrexham Industrial Estate, who sponsored the trip, providing pink and grey tour t-shirts for the unit.
Jim Butcher, assistant explorer scout leader, said: “The trip was absolutely fantastic and a great experience for all involved. Allowing the Explorers involved to grow future skills, such as personal independence, teamwork and of cause having fun.
“We’d like to thanks Specsavers Broughton Park and Almetron for their kind donation.”
