Local Children Plant Over 4,000 Crocuses at Bellevue Park
Over 4,000 flowers have been planted in a Wrexham park thanks to the handy work of local schoolchildren.
The crocus bulbs were planted by children from Victoria CP School, who recently joined the Rotary Club of Wrexham and Erddig and Wrexham Council’s Park Ranger Alasdair Thomson at Bellevue Park.
In total over 4,000 crocus bulbs were planted around the bandstand at Bellevue Park to promote and celebrate the success of the ongoing ‘End Polio Now’ campaign.
The children, from the school’s Eco-team and year 5 impressed the rotary club members and the ranger with their hard work and excellent behaviour.
The Crocus is a flower which symbolises the story of the Polio eradication programme. It was chosen as the purple colour matched the dye painted on the fingers of children to show that they have been immunised.
The Rotary Club is heavily involved in fundraising to support the global polio vaccination programme, which over the last 25 years has saved millions of lives around the world.
The Crocuses have been planted between trees all around the bandstand and will hopefully provide a beautiful springtime display for many years to come.
