Mystery liquid throw in town store “appears to be a self-contained incident”
Inquiries are ongoing after an incident at a shop in Wrexham town centre on Sunday afternoon.
Shortly before 6pm North Wales Police were called to Casper Stores on Market Street after a report that a male had entered earlier in the afternoon and thrown an unknown liquid substance onto shop furniture and goods.
The staff reported that the substance had an unpleasant smell. North Wales Police, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service and the Welsh Ambulance Service all attended the scene, but it does not appear at this time that anyone suffered any ill-effects.
Speaking to Wrexham.com this morning, Wrexham Town Inspector Vic Powell said that enquiries into the incident were ongoing.
Insp Powell said: “We are satisfied that the incident was not hate or terror related.
“It is currently being investigated by a dedicated detective resource in support with the local policing team here.
“Enquiries are ongoing with the store and other aspects of the town centre business community this morning.
“It appears to be a self-contained incident from which we have a number of very specific enquiries.”
Commenting after the incident, Chief Inspector Andrew Williams of North Wales Police, said” “The priority is to as ensure the safety of the public and the employees at the store.
“As with normal procedures, we are working closely with the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service to secure items believed contaminated with the substance and the Ambulance Service is attending as a precaution.
“Fortunately the liquid does not appear to have caused any ill-effects to the staff present at the time of the incident. The scene will be examined jointly with NWFRS and a criminal investigation led by detectives is ongoing”.
