Lead Councillor brands fly tippers a ‘disgrace’ – despite threats Wrexham Council carried out zero prosecutions in last year
A large amount of fly tipping was found by volunteers taking part in a litter pick in Pant recently, with the Lead Councillor branding it a ‘disgrace’. However despite warnings, Wrexham Council failed to bring any prosecutions for fly tipping in the past year.
The fly tipping (pictured above) of mainly concrete and wood, was just dumped rather than disposed of by a professional company or even taken to the household recycling centre.
Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for the Environment and Transport, said: “It’s a disgrace that people care so little for our environment and expect others to clear up after them.
“I have asked officers to investigate where this came from and as it looks easily identifiable I imagine it won’t be long before someone will be hearing from us.”
“As the lighter nights are now here and our attention turns to DIY and garden improvements please remember to plan how you will be getting rid of the rubbish that may be left as a result and if possible cost it into the final price if a professional company is needed.”
With the comments offered by Cllr Bithell, and his previous promise to not hesitate to prosecute those who fly tip household waste, we asked for the total number of prosecutions brought in the last 12 months.
We also asked how many prosecutions were successful, and the split between successfully enforcement via prosecution against private individuals as opposed to companies.
Wrexham Council said there were no prosecutions, however they will ‘continue to investigate all instances of fly tipping’.
Previously Cllr Bithell has warned members of the public that dumped waste is combed through to discover names and addresses of the real owners of the waste, and if found ‘we will not hesitate to prosecute’.
