Below is a small round up of other things we spotted in this month’s Executive Board papers mentioned in the forward work programs or individual reports:

  • At a recent planning meeting the lack of a Local Development Plan was cited as opening the door to possible housing developments, prompting some on the Wrexham.com forums to question the implications. At the Executive Board the roadmap for the new LDP is being discussion with its ‘delivery plan’ being, er, delivered to the Welsh Government. If the plan is followed through and does not change an LDP could be adopted in March 2018.
  • In the forward work programme the ‘Waking The Dragon’ is mentioned for the first time in a long while. The ‘Waking The Dragon’ project in Chirk gained planning consent in February 2011, but appeared to have gone quiet since. The plans are for a 23.5m (77ft) high dragon which will stand on top of a 41.5m (147ft) high tower – with the dragon itself having a 150 foot wingspan. The latest updates on the project’s Facebook page (here) state talks have recently occurred with an unnamed ‘major private investor’ and an unnamed ‘global Private Bank’. The work programme states “To update Members and seek approval to finalise agreed terms” with a ‘decision date’ of early February.
  • In December a report will be discussed regarding the town’s CCTV, which will also mention the introduction of deployable CCTV cameras ‘to target crime and anti-social behaviour.
  • Webcasting of Council meetings has recently started to take place, but the funding and trial started many months ago. In December Councillors will decide if they wish, or are able, to keep the webcasting system and renew contracts to enable that to happen.
