Wrexham’s Singing Streets festival promises “biggest and best” event yet!

Wrexham town centre will be alive with the sound of music once more when more than 20 choirs take to the streets for a day of singing and entertainment.

Taking place on Saturday 29th September, the third annual Wrexham Singing Streets festival – organised by the office of Ian Lucas MP – will see the choirs perform at six locations around the town centre.

Many of the choirs attending are from the Wrexham area but others are coming from further afield. The music on offer will feature a variety of different styles, appealing to all ages.

The event is being organised by Mr Lucas’ office in collaboration with John Jones Quality Acoustics, Wrexham Community Choir volunteers, Gateway Church, Wrexham Business Group CIC and Wrexham Glyndŵr University.

A launch event was held at Wrexham Glyndŵr University on Monday, June 11 where sponsors and partners joined Mr Lucas to hear one of the choirs – from Victoria CP School in Wrexham – perform three songs to give a taste of what people can expect in September.

Radio station Calon FM broadcast the official launch, which also included speeches from Mr Lucas, Derek Jones of Wrexham Symphony Orchestra and Maria Hinfelaar, vice-chancellor and chief executive of the university.

“This year’s Wrexham Singing Streets promises to be the biggest and best yet,” said Mr Lucas.

“It’s a wonderful occasion which brings people of the town together – a day when we can sing out loud about what a wonderful place Wrexham is.

“So please put September 29 in your diaries and join us for what promises to be a true community event for the people of Wrexham, when the whole of the town centre will be filled with song.”

The university’s vice chancellor Professor Hinfelaar said: “I’d like to thank everyone for coming along to the launch – and particularly the children from Victoria School for their wonderful singing.

“The Singing Streets festival is a great event and we are delighted to have launched it here at the university.

“The festival helps our students get hands-on experience – whether that is filming the launch professionally, working to promote the event in the run-up to September 29, or helping on the day itself to make the festival happen behind the scenes.

“Most importantly, however, all of us who take part get to have a lot of fun. With hundreds of people in the centre of Wrexham, this is a real community event for the town and we’re very grateful to be part of it.”

This year’s event is being sponsored by Wockhardt, Wrexham Crime Link, Hays Travel and Gateway Church.
