The Labour Party has tonight selected their Wrexham candidate for the forthcoming general election.

Mary Wimbury was selected by local Labour Party members at a meeting Wrexham Glyndwr University event tonight.

They were part of an all female shortlist up for selection, which also included Dana Davies, Sharon Morris and Helen Grout.

The selection of the new prospective parliamentary candidate was brought forward by a week after it was confirmed that a snap general election would take place on December 12th. The process was also changed to disallow postal votes, with only votes on the night counting, with some unhappy with apparently just two days notice of the change.

Mary Wimbury is the first new Labour candidate for Wrexham in 18 years, after current MP Ian Lucas announced earlier this month that he would not be contesting the next general election, and you can read about her on her website here.
