Over £2000 has been raised for The Wrexham AFC Disabled Supporters Association thanks to a fundraising ‘Kurry’ night at the Anise.

The funds were raised as a curry night dubbed ‘Kurry with Keates’, with Club Manager Dean Keates and some Wrexham AFC players attending the evening.

Over 100 fans turned out to support the fundraising event, which was held earlier this month.

Mr Keates and team players attended the event and helped to raise funds in various ways including a raffle and an auction.

The event was organised by Steve Gilbert, Chair of the DSA along with Robb Golam, manager of the Anise and Conservative candidate for the Gresford ward, Andrew Atkinson.

Robb Golam said the Anise was ‘very pleased to help the DSA after the success of the last event’.

He continued: “We wanted to help since Andrew approached us with the idea, the club were fantastic and it was a real buzz to have the players and Dean Keates in the restaurant for such a great cause. Steve Gilbert has been great to work with and his passion for the club and the cause is fantastic.”

Mr Atkinson said: “It was an amazing event and we are so grateful to the Anise for donating over £1000, it was an incredible gesture and I’m sure along with all the other funds raised it will make a huge difference.

“Steve Gilbert did a great job and the evening went off really well, without a hitch, everyone loved it.”

The evening was sponsored by GHP Legal and SG Estates, with money also raised through selling raffle tickets and auctioning items as well as business sponsorship.

Steve Gilbert DSA, added: “We would like to offer our heartfelt thanks to Robb and the team at Anise for the fantastic fundraising event they held for us, which has raised well in excess of £2000. Thanks too to Andrew Atkinson for organising the event again.

“Also a massive thank you to al those local businesses that have thrown their support behind us as event sponsors; UK Engineering, Coxeys Accountants, King Street Coffee, Wrexham.com and especially both GHP Legal and SG Estates as main sponsors. Many thanks to to the many local businesses who donated raffle prizes.

“The event was a completely sold out a month in advance, all this just once again demonstrates the fantastic support the Wrexham community has for our cause.”
