Two young men have been killed and another person left seriously injured in a collision on the Horseshoe Pass in Llangollen this afternoon.

The incident involving one vehicle took place at 12.38pm and the fire service, police and ambulances rushed quickly to the scene.

North Wales Police confirmed that two young men were pronounced dead at the scene and another has been taken to Wrexham Maelor Hospital with chest injuries after being cut from the vehicle.

Police have named the two young men who died as Jonathon Lee Cassidy Jones and Dale Thomas Williams, both of whom were 18 years of age and were from the Ruabon area of Wrexham.

They were travelling in a silver blue Peugeot on the A542 from the Horseshoe Pass into Llangollen at the time of the crash.

It is believed the car came off the road and hit a tree.

The road is currently closed and is expected to remain so for some time as emergency services remain on the scene. Diversions have been put in place.

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have information to contact PC 450 Aled Jackson at the Roads Policing Unit on 101 (if in Wales) or 0300 3300 101.
