UPDATE: That is it… the deadline has passed!

The people of Wrexham get to choose their next 52 councillors on May 4th in a few weeks time, but the deadline to register to vote is just hours away!

If you want to take part in the decision of which group of people will get £4,750,000 over the coming five year term you need to be registered to vote – and with wards being decided by literally a couple of votes last time in 2012 your vote does count.

Registering to vote takes literally minutes – so if you’re unhappy with how your local councillor has performed over the last five years, you vehemently disagree with some of the decisions made locally, wish to offer support to a good councillor, or even just want to scribble on the ballot in a recorded protest – then make sure you register to vote and turnout on Thursday May 4th!

At the last council election we have heard of people turning up on polling day looking to cast vote, but they were not registered so were unable to. Do not be one of those people!

Registering is dead easy, you can do it now and online by visiting https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote, if you think you are registered you can change your preferences or update your details too.

Looking at this ONS dataset we think there could roughly be around 105,000-110,000 people eligible to be registered to vote in Wrexham, and this dataset from December 2016 states 103,378 were registered to vote at that point.

In the recent in/out EU Referendum 71.6% of registered voters turned out, which was 70,407 voters – with the total registered to vote indicating at around 98,400 people.

For those interested in some demographic information on Wrexham we have copied this table below:

We are told around 1,000 people have been added to the register in March to early April, however a similar number have been removed – for example due to deaths or people moving and reregistering elsewhere.

Register now and online by visiting https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
