Johnstown and Rhos communities raise over £800 for elderly residents targeted by thieves

Members of the Johnstown and Rhos communities have joined together to raise hundreds of pounds for two elderly residents who were targeted by callous thieves just before Christmas.

The gang, who claimed to be police officers, targeted the property in Johnstown and stole a substantial amount of money on Friday 15th December.

After the incident the local community and businesses rallied round in a bid to help and fundraise for the two vulnerable residents.

Premier Shop on High Street Johnstown, The Post Office in Johnstown and Paul Pemberton garage in Rhos all kindly agreed to have secured buckets for people to make donations to help the family at this difficult time.

The community effort has helped raise £887.64 for the local family.

The residents have been supported by family and friends who have helped them overcome their ordeal. Wrexham Council have also offered support and assisted with new security locks and security lighting.

Councillor David A Bithell, local member for Johnstown said: “The whole community have rallied around and with the help and with assistance from local businesses and many more people have collected a fantastic amount of money who have given generously and will go a long way help them replace their stolen money in a despicable crime on the most vulnerable in the community.

Cllr Bithell added that the Post Office have been helping the family set up an account which will reduce risks of keeping money at home and I would urge people not to keep large amounts of money at home. I would also like thank the North Wales Police for their help and assistance.
