In ongoing discussions about the political groupings of Wrexham Council another group have shown their hand.

Earlier this afternoon Plaid Cymru announced they are creating their own group on the Council after informal talks.

This evening Wrexham Independent Group have said they have been holding talks with the newly formed Independent Group in an effort to work together following the news that 10 Labour councillors resigned from the Labour Party.

Councillor David A Bithell Leader of Wrexham Independent Group said: “We have been holding talks with various groups over the past week and in the interests of the wider public and our constituents have offered to work with the new group of 20 independents.

“We have however decided to retain our own identity as Wrexham Independent Group.

“We understand the difficulties that have arisen in recent months and want an open and transparent council in these difficult and challenging times.

“We have put our differences behind us and as far as we are concerned this is a blank piece of paper. We are not here to prop anybody up and will vote and make decisions on what we feel is the best for the people of Wrexham.

“Key and essential to these talks “deal breaker” was our motion we put before the Executive board in August to give “Splash Madoc Community Trust” £50k to help kick start the re-opening of the centre which we campaigned against. We are pleased there is now a recommendation to give the trust £50k, subject to a viable business plan and Executive Board Approval on 7th October.

“We are continuing to talk to fellow independent Group councillors on other aspects and negotiations are continuing.

The Wrexham Independent Group are Cllrs, David A Bithell, Ronnie Prince, Bill Baldwin, Joan Lowe, John C Phillips, John Pritchard, David Taylor, Pat Jeffares

The yet un-named former Labour now Independent Group is made up of Neil Rogers, Council Leader, Bernie McCann, Michael Williams, David Griffiths, Mr Griffiths, I David Bithell, Geoff Lowe, Malcolm Taylor, Barbara Roxburgh , Steve Wilson and Andy Williams.

The Democratic Independents grouping is made up of Bob Dutton, Alan Edwards, Terry Evans, David Kelly, Mark Owens, Paul Pemberton, Mark Pritchard, Ian Roberts, Phil Wynn and Barbera Roberts.
