Increased patrols at a hotspot for drug abuse and antisocial behaviour in the town centre are set to continue – with three arrests already made in the area.

Issues outside the apartments on Tuttle Street, particularly on the pathway near St Giles Church, have well documented for sometime, with residents having previously voiced their concern about antisocial behaviour and drug and alcohol abuse.

In recent weeks town centre officers have stepped up patrols in the area in a bid to tackle the issues and offer reassurance to the public.

One option currently being explored to help tackle the issues is installing a gate along the pathway and only allowing access through at certain times.

Speaking earlier this week, Inspector Paul Wycherley said: “There is a hotspot area at Tuttle Street and the St Giles Church area. There are people going there and there is drug activity and people urinating etc.

“There have been increased patrols in the area and we are working closely with Wrexham County Borough Council.

“There have been three arrests for possession of drugs and our attendance in the area in terms of uniformed patrols and other methods will continue.”
