An Improvement Notice has been issued to a town centre bar “for failing to take reasonable measures to minimise the risk of being exposed to Coronavirus on its premises and to people queuing outside.”

The local authority say that Penny Black, on Abbott Street, also failed to change the layout of premises in order to limit close face to face contact.

The Improvement Notice means the bar must comply with social distancing measures or further action will be taken to protect the health of public and staff.

The Council’s Licensing team say they are now working with the Licensee to support them in making improvements to keep everyone safe.

Customers are reminded not to venture out to licensed premises in groups of more than 6 persons from a household/extended household group.

Cllr Hugh Jones, Lead Member for Communities, Partnerships, Public Protection and Community Safety, said: “It’s disappointing that the licensee has failed to protect the health of staff and customers and officers were left with no choice but to issue an Improvement Notice.

“I would like to remind everyone that Coronavirus is still in our communities and we all need to stay vigilant to its presence in order to Keep Wrexham Safe.

“We want to avoid the type of local lockdowns that have been seen in South Wales and the North East of England where some recently gained freedoms have now been lost.

“Our officers will continue to monitor premises and will not hesitate to take action when necessary.”
