Inspector Mark Williams from North Wales Police today gave members of the Town Centre Forum a crime update, including details on the rooftop drama three weeks ago, referring to them as ‘idiots’ on the roof.

The meeting was told that: “Despite what the Daily Mail said it was not North Wales Police’s fault”, and that despite media reporting it was a form of protest it infact was not.

Apologies were offered for what described as ‘essential disruption’, with a street being closed off for two days.

North Wales Police said: “Public safety was at the forefront of our actions. The incident was ended as quickly as quickly as we could end it.

“Contrary to some suggestions we couldn’t hose them off, blow them off with a helicopter or the like. When it was safe to do so we removed them.”

Light heartedly the police representatives said they would not enter any Kentucky Fried Chicken related discussions.

KFC did crop up when the police were asked if any compensation was available for businesses who lost trade, with the answer being no. It was suggested that the Court may award compensation, however it takes into account the ability to pay, with one way saying ‘they couldnt even buy their own KFC!’

More seriously the meeting was told that the Council, Chief Inspector and those affected met last week to discuss what had occurred. North Wales Police have promised a full review of the exercise and feedback will come from that. There will be follow up meetings from the police who will get impact statements from those affected.

The buildings in question have been secured with an array of defences to prevent such an incident occurring in the future. This includes metal bars and razor wire.
