Housing Application For Former Remploy Site

The former Remploy factory on Railway Road could be demolished for 49 houses if a planning application is successful.

It is proposed that the site is replaced with a development that will include detached, terraced and semi-detached residential properties.

The new development would comprise of 8 one bedroom houses, 23 two bedroom houses and 18 three bedroom houses.

Since closing in 2012 the 4920sqm Remploy site has remained vacant.

In the report is it stated that ‘The decision to erect a majority of one and two bedroom dwellings is mainly recession led’ with the properties appealing to a younger market ‘who wish to remain close to the towns facilities’.

Parking spaces for the houses will also be provided, along with a mix of additional garages and private driveways and spaces in parking bays.

One parking space will be provided for the one bedroom properties, with a minimum of two spaces for the larger houses.

It is stated in the report that discussions with Wrexham Council regarding the safe use and capacity of the nearby bridge. However analysis of the TRIC’s data has indicated that the proposed development will create less traffic than using the site for industrial purposes.
