Plans to build a new hotel next to a Wrexham pub have been backed by councillors.

The proposals for the 24 bedroom lodge next to Plas Coch, on Plas Coch Retail Park, had been submitted by Marston’s earlier this year.

At the time the plans were described as being part of a “nationwide development programme’ by the company, which is “looking to provide high quality and best value overnight accommodation on selected sites across their estate”.

Only one complaint had been put forward in relation to the application, with planning office Matthew Phillips explaining yesterday that there had been concerns from one individual over an increase in traffic and noise pollution.

However the plans, which Grosvenor Cllr Marc Jones described as a benefit to the town, were given the go ahead by planning committee members.

As part of the plans there would also be a reconfiguration of the car parking facilities, which would increase from its current provision of 80 spaces to 95 to cater for the extra demand.

A breakfast service for guests would be provided in The Plas Coch, along with a reception service for those checking into the lodge.

The plans are one of several to have been submitted for the Plas Coch Retail Site site in recent months, with other applications including the redevelopment of the nearby Aldi supermarket and the creation of a drive-thru Costa.
