Hope House Hospice Strikes It Lucky With New Partner

A children’s hospice been bowled over by the support of a new partner.

Staff at Tenpin in Wrexham’s Eagles Meadow have pledged to devote their fund-raising efforts to support Hope House as their chosen charity.

The hospice needs to raise £4 million a year to maintain their vital services for children with life-limiting conditions.

The charity is currently helping more than 500 families from across North and Mid Wales, Cheshire and Shropshire at their two hospices, Hope House near Oswestry and Ty Gobaith in the Conwy Valley.

According to Tenpin sales manager Janet Masters, once they discovered just how much the charity needs to raise just to keep their doors open they immediately decided to help.

She said: “We were taken aback by the dedication of staff and by the sheer numbers of families they help. Hopefully, in our small way, we can help by raising some of the funds they need this year and in the years to come.

“We are working with fundraiser Rachel Jones in planning some fundraising bowling nights here at Eagles Meadow with all profits going to support Hope House.

“Also, anyone who wants to organise a fund raising event in aid of Hope House will be offered discounted bowling fees for the event.”

Hospice fund-raiser Rachel Jones said: “All the children we care for, from birth to 19, have life-limiting or terminal illnesses and we also work with, and support, bereaved families who may be struggling to come to terms with the death of a child.

“Our catchment area is vast and at the dawn of a new year we need to raise £4 million just to cover our running costs. People are often surprised to learn that we take children from most of Cheshire as well as Shropshire.

“In Wales our area covers just about all of North and Mid-Wales as far south as the Brecon Beacons.

“We receive a small percentage of our costs from the government but the rest has to come from public subscription and donations. Hospices such as Hope House don’t come under the NHS as far as funding is concerned.”
