Wrexham based co-driver Jamie Edwards and driver Spencer Wilkinson are gearing up for Wales Rally GB, which gets underway in Deeside this Thursday.

In preparation for the rally the twosome made an appearance at an event held by their team sponsor, Data Pacific, to showcase their race car, a Subaru Impreza N15 which they hope will guide them to success over the course of the rally.

In recent years the Wales Rally GB has used Cardiff as its base however this year sees the move up to Deeside, which Jamie sees as a positive one:- “Last year the cars were departing Cardiff at 5AM and not returning until well into the evening. It was an opportunity missed as no one was around to see anything.”

On the duo’s chances for the rally itself, Edwards was optimistic that home advantage could play a factor but took time to acknowledge the strength of some of the teams involved:- “VW have a major base with an operation dedicated to getting their cars ready. I believe they have up to nearly 400 people working on them. Fortunately they won’t be in the same class as us!”

The relationship between SW Motorsport (Spencer & Jamie’s team) and Data Pacific came about after Jamie and Mark Hollingsworth (co-owner and Director of Data Pacific) discovered their mutual passion for motorsport. Mark is equally as excited at the prospect of the high profile event on Wrexham’s doorstep, which encouraged him and brother Richard to get involved.

The rally is just one of a number of high profile sporting events taking place in the region this year, including the likes of the Etape Cymru and Rugby League World Cup.

Wales Rally GB gets underway this Thursday. For more information on the routes and tickets, and to keep updated on Spencer and Jamie’s progress, you can visit the official website here.
