Historic Calendar Project Asks ‘Go Fund Me!’
A local digital restoration project, aiming to create calendars to be donated to the Wrexham Museum, is asking for a crowdsourced kick start.
Simon Roberts, who is behind the project, told us: “I’ve been an avid Photoshop fan for years and over the past 2 or 3 years i’ve been an active member of Old Photos Of Wrexham on Facebook.
“It just started off small thinking ‘I wonder what the Wynnstay arms used to look like back in the day, as I heard stories the entrance to the bar was a old horse carriage way’.
“It went from there, the reception I received off everyone was fantastic. I went around taking different images in town and super imposing the old images to where they should have been, from the old town hall to the Hand Inn on Town Hill.”
Simon goes on to say: “All the images were not as high quality as they could have been and with me still learning different techniques and trying to find the location of the original photograph proved quite a task with lining up the buildings.
“Last year Wrexham Museum approached me to produce 10 post cards with the images on for them to sell. Over about 3 or 4 weeks I produced higher quality images for them to sell and ensured the images had more time spent on them.”
“Now I want to redo all the images and obtain the original high quality prints (each image has to be purchased) I will then colour each image which will take me about 3 or 4 weeks depending on the quality of the image I will then superimpose the old image onto Wrexham 2015.
Simon aims to create a new high quality calendar with the funds raised by the Go Fund Me drive to ensure the end product is the best quality possible.
Simon will be donating the calendars to Wrexham Museum and will let them sell them and keep the earnings.
