Community pharmacies play a vital role in helping support NHS services across Wales.

That is the message from Wrexham’s newly re-elected Assembly Member, Lesley Griffiths, who recently visited Gresford Pharmacy to hear more about the range of services offered at community pharmacies across Wales.

Ms Griffiths met with the pharmacists and Gerald Thomas, North Wales’ Regional Director for the Vittoria Healthcare group, which operate Gresford Pharmacy and 11 others across North East Wales and the Wirral.

The purpose of the visit was to highlight the range of services pharmacies across Wrexham and Wales offer. Rather than booking an appointment to see your GP, pharmacies offer a range of NHS common ailments services which can help ease the pressure on other NHS facilities.

Some of the services at Gresford Pharmacy include prescription collection and delivery, medicine use reviews, blood pressure testing and flu vaccinations.

The message from the pharmacies reinforces the Choose Well initiative which explains the various NHS services available in Wales and enables individuals to access the most appropriate treatment for their medical needs.

A recent patient satisfaction survey found that almost 100% of the 126 people questioned felt that the service provided at Gresford Pharmacy.

After her visit, Lesley Griffiths AM said: “There are over 700 community pharmacies across Wales and it is clear they have a key role to play in the heart of their communities. As well as having the expertise to offer invaluable advice and guidance, Gresford Pharmacy offers a wide range of services which not only help local patients, but can help alleviate the pressure on GPs.”

“Judging by the recent customer satisfaction survey results, local residents clearly value the excellent service provided by Gerald and his team.”
